Shopian, Jul 20: Amid soaring temperature, residents of Durpora village in Zainapora hamlet of South Kashmir’s Shopian district are facing acute shortage of drinking water.
Locals from the area talking with news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that there is spring in the village but its water is being supplied to many villages which are several kilometers away but the local population is without the water supply.
“We are being supplied water from a canal directly which is highly contaminated and even animals can’t drink it,” they said.
Locals said since the last two decades they have been moving from pillar to post to get the issue redressed but they have seen nothing but mere assurances.
“Even the promises of the elected representatives have proved futile on ground,” they said. “It is shame for the administration that even in the 21st century, a village just 2 kilometers from sub district Zainapora is without water supply.”
“Our land was used for the construction of a tank, but water is being supplied to other villages while Durpora is being neglected,” locals said.
Villagers requested concerned higher ups to look into the matter and provide drinking water to them at the earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief
