Budgam, Jul 20: The resident of Khanda village in Budgam alleged that the officials in the PHE department Chadoora are trying to relocate the long-pending water scheme project to another place which is three kilometers away from the assigned site.
While expressing anger against the PHE department, the residents of Khanda talking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the deliberate move would push the whole area towards the water scarcity.
“The village is at the tail end of the two water schemes which results in the shortage of drinking water for decades,” a resident said.
In view of addressing the shortage of water to the said village, the PHE Chadoora has proposed a separate water filtration plant in 2019, which costs nearly Rs 9.50crores.
“It has been two years since the department assured the village, having the population of nearly four thousand, to install the filtration plant in Karighar Mohalla Khanda,” locals said.
According to a letter which lies with the KNO, in view of the requirement of land, the Auqaf Committee along with the department of PHE had identified a land at village Khanda.
Iftikhar, a local resident of Khanda, said that after all the hardwork, the department is now trying to shift the treatment plant to a far place which will again leave the area without a water supply.
Junior Engineer Bilal Ahmad said that the department has many options available but after evaluating all options, they would finalise the best options.
“The proposal is yet to get the nod by the government. Once we get the green signal from higher authorities the department will take the opinion of the people but Kuzuwaira is a place of priority because the land belongs to the PHE department,” he said
