Jammu, 20 July: People’s Democratic Party today held a strong protest in Jammu against the unprecedented price hike of essential commodities especially the petrol, diesel and gas and anti people policies of BJP government at the center.
JKPDP Vice president, Abdul Hamid chowdhary led the protest demonstration from People’s Democratic Party headquarter jammu and blocked the national highway .
The protesters, who were carrying party flags and shouting anti-BJP slogans, later dispersed peacefully
The PDP activists assembled near the party office and staged a demonstration against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for rising prices of essential commodities, especially petrol, diesel and LPG.
“The BJP government is anti-poor and pro-capitalist… It has broken the backbone of the commoners by its anti-people policies and dictatorial attitude,” PDP vice president Hamid Chowdhary said.
He said that the government directives issued on a regular basis are aimed at crippling Jammu’s economy. “From handing over mining operations to non locals to stopping practice of annual Darbar move every administrative measure has caused a serious dent on Jammu”, he said.
However, the protests were maintained to the limited presence and symbolic in nature in view of the Covid-19 situation and the advisory. The party leadership warned of massive protests all over the issue of price hike, once the covid situation improves, if the Modi Govt remained unmoved and adamant to lower the taxes on petrol, diesel and gas and failed to check the prices of all commodities.
“The policies of the government have crippled the economy of Jammu and every section of the society is facing the direct brunt”, General Secretary of the party Sardar Amreek Singh Reen said.
He said that transfers, industrialists, transporters and even the working class were hit in Jammu post abrogation of Article 370. “The only thing this government is good at is lying and diverting issues from real issues”, he said.
