Srinagar Aug 25: ex vc and poltical leader er Nazir ah yatoo stated that Jammu and Kashmir is largely dependent for electricity on hydroelectric power plants on its rivers. The state has the potential to generate around 20,000 megawatts of hydel power but produces only about 2,439 megawatts. Moreover, much of this power is generated by plants run by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, which transmits most of it outside Jammu and noKashmir, leaving the state with frequent power cuts, especially in winter when the demand nears 1,900 megawatts.said er yatoo
Er Nazir yatoo said ,it is painful that jammue and kashmir ,despite having the best available resources in the country to generate power,is lagging behind in providing round the clock electricity to consumers.
Yatoo requested central government to take a kind consideration of the issue.
