Srinagar, Aug 5: Police on Thursday foiled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) march against abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A in Srinagar.
Police also removed black flags hoisted by PDP workers in the party headquarter at S K Park near here. A large number of PDP senior leaders and workers had assembled at party headquarters to lodge protest on the second anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A today.
Led by former Chief Minister and party president Mehbooba Mufti PDP leaders and workers, wearing black badges, started a march from party headquarter towards Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city.
However, police personnel stopped them at a distance and march dispersed peacefully.
They were raising slogans demanding restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Before dispersing Mehbooba questioned the BJP claim about development in the J&K after August 5, 2019. Where is the development and democracy, she said adding people are not being allowed to participate in peaceful processions.
She alleged that shopkeepers in many areas, including Lal Chowk, were being forced by police to reopen their shops today.
Mehbooba also re-tweeted a tweet alongwith a video in which a police officer was seen directing police men to direct shopkeepers to open their shops in Lal Chowk.
Mehbooba, who headed a coalition government with BJP for three years before the saffron party pulled out, said struggle for the restoration of Article 370 and 35 A will continue.
