Underline north Kashmir’s developmental needs, demand drug de-addiction for Kupwara
Srinagar, Oct 04: J&K Peoples Conference senior leaders, DDC Kupwara Chairman Irfan Panditpori and Vice Chairman Haji Farooq, on Monday called on Lt Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and submitted various demands pertaining to the welfare of common masses in north Kashmir.
The leaders during the meeting underscored the need for improving road connectivity to make governance accessible to the people living in the far-flung areas. They demanded 10 KM road macadamization for each territorial constituency in district Kupwara. The also urged the Lt. Governor to give amnesty for power bills for Kupwara consumers, highlighting how the uncertain situation that erupted post pandemic in Kashmir has left the economically downtrodden sections in the region in dire straits and that their businesses were serenely hit due to the subsequent lockdown ordered in order to prevent the spread of covid-19. Irfan Panditpori and Haji Farooq demanded that amnesty may be given to the power consumers in terms of clearing the past electricity dues. They also sought additional funding for the irrigation sector in Kupwara, Handwara and Tangdar.
During the meeting, the PC leaders also highlighted the menace of drug addiction in north Kashmir and how there are fears looming large about the younger generation getting consumed by the drugs. They demanded establishment of one deaddiction Centre for Kupwara besides filling of vacant positions in the district’s administrative set-up so that common masses could heave a sigh of relief from getting exposed to severe hardships due to absence of concerned officers in various departments of the district.
